π Climate Change - Mountainous Region Warming
Mountainous regions across the planet are warming especially fast, melting the ice that glues rocky slopes and glaciers together.
Key Points:
β’ Mountainous regions are warming faster than the global average.
β’ This warming is causing the ice that holds rocky slopes and glaciers together to melt.
β’ The consequences of this melting are still being studied.

πͺ Security - Amazon Ring Doorbell Encryption
I take announcements like this unseriously until the rollout is complete, but Amazon claims to be adding default E2EE encryption for Ring doorbells. I guess maybe they see the way the wind is blowing.
Key Points:
β’ Amazon is adding default E2EE encryption to Ring doorbells.
β’ This encryption will limit the surveillance capabilities of Ring doorbells.
β’ The rollout is not yet complete.

πͺ Security - Ring Doorbell Encryption Limitations
To be a bit more clear, it isnβt E2E. The idea is that doorbell feeds will be encrypted with a key that gets ratcheted forwards after 24 hours. So itβs more of a deliberate limiting of their surveillance capability. Thereβs some enclave stuff going on in here, still reading.
Key Points:
β’ Ring doorbells will use a key that gets ratcheted forwards after 24 hours.
β’ This encryption is not end-to-end encryption.
β’ The goal is to limit the surveillance capabilities of Ring doorbells.

π Finance - Bitcoin Power Law
In materials science, cracks can follow a power law before accelerating into fracture. Bitcoin may eventually do the same, breaking its power law to the upside. All models are wrong, but some are useful.
Key Points:
β’ Bitcoin may follow a power law before accelerating into a new phase.
β’ This could be similar to the behavior of cracks in materials science.
β’ All models are imperfect, but some can be useful.
